TCDB 2 for Tuesday #125

3 weeks in a row with a 2 for Tuesday post.  My trading has slightly picked up this month.  With only 2 weeks left in my son's soccer and band seasons, hopefully the trend will continue.  Not very many cards to show off today, so I will jump right in with the first package from member scordova.

I do not consider these vintage cards even though they are almost 50 years old.  I guess that is my way of being in denial since I am pushing 50 myself.  Flood is a 1978 TCMA and the Forsch is a 1976 SSPC.

It has been a slow process for me to complete any Topps Chrome team sets the last few years.  Pages gives me 5 of the 9 from last year's Update set.  I still do not have a single card from this year's set.

The second trade package came from member jamestaglil.

Not sure too many collectors would waste postage on 3 minor league Best cards, but I love them.  Love seeing the old style Peoria Chiefs logo on the Ozuna card.

Card Show Recap

The past two nights my son's soccer games have been rained out.  Usually that is a bad thing, but we are in dire need of rain in southern Illinois.  Plus it gave me some spare time to sort through a few card stacks on my desk, one of which I forgot to write about.

Back in early August, my son and I attended a local card show on a Saturday morning before school started.  This show usually has a good mix of modern and vintage, but this time the vintage was not as readily available.  We stuck mostly to bargain boxes.  I believe most of today's cards came from one dealer who a very nice dime box.  I pulled quite a bit of trade bait along with a few keepers.

Any Pujols card for a dime is a good deal.  I already had two of these, but they will find a good home in another Cardinals' fan's collection.

I have never seen this Musial card before.  A little investigating on TCDB helped me identify it as a 2010 Topps Pro Debut Hall of Fame Stars inserts.  The Montgomery is a goil foil parallel.

You saw these two in yesterday's post also.  I have 381 Goldschmidt cards, and 214 Arenado cards.  Maybe they will be easier to acquire now that one is gone and the other is soon to be gone.

I am almost finished with my 2025 Donruss team set.  Just one more to go.  I have said it before how boring this year's design is.  I wish Panini would go back to using the Rated Rookie logo.  Rated Prospect is not right.  I doubt if Topps would ever change the Rookie Gold Cup to the Rookie Gold Trophy.

Descalso is the first 2010 Topps Pro Debut blue parallel in my collection.  It is numbered to 369.  Some fans may not realize Shelby Miller is still in the league.  He was a nice bullpen arm for the Brewers this year until he was injured a few weeks ago.  He is needing a second Tommy John surgery and will most likely miss all of 2026.

TCDB 2 for Tuesday #124

Two weeks in a row for a 2 for Tuesday post.  Good thing I had a trade come in yesterday or this post would have waited until next week.  Yesterday's pwe came from member MMehler30.

I almost never see older premium brands like Triple Threads or Tribute at card shows.  If I do, it is an autograph, game used, or numbered parallel.  The base version of 2011 Triple Threads is numbered to 1500.

The second package came from member tjdworetzky.

I doubt you will find a Cardinals collector who does not like a nice short print card of  Adam Wainwright.

Topps felt the need to add a 150th parallel in 2019.  Not needed in my opinion.  Stick to the yearly ones like gold and rainbow foil.

I had hopes Carlson would flourish once he left St. Louis.  He has seen limited playing time in Baltimore and is not doing much better.

Goldschmidt and Arenado played 4 seasons together in St. Louis.  They played in 3 playoff games, losing each one.  I would have never dreamed that would have happened.  Goldschmidt is in New York now, while Arenado is most likely playing his last few games as a Cardinal.

TCDB 2 for Tuesday #123

The Cardinals started their final homestand last night in a typical fashion for this year.  The game went back and forth until the 7th inning when the bullpen fell apart.  The Reds scored 8 runs in the final 3 innings to win 11-6.  I lost interested after the top of the 9th and scanned some cards for today's post.  First up are 3 cards from member T206.

I will always be a Big City Adams fan.  Great guy who hit some big home runs for the Cardinals.

Earlier today I saw that the Natural Robert Redford passed away.  Similar to Roy Hobbs, Duncan was a lefty who could hit the ball a long way.  Sadly he passed away in 2019 at 38 years old due to cancer.

The minor league nerd in me loves Team Best cards.  This 1997 card features the old Louisville Redbirds logo.

The second trade package came from member Sloedog.

If I see any Topps gold cards in dime boxes at card shows, I always grab them in hopes of trading for Cardinals I need.  This trade worked just like that.  The 2015 Update Peralta features a Pujols camo during his Angels tenure.

Sepia is not one of my favorite refractor versions.  I need more color to my cards.

Twitter/X Purchase

Quick post today to show off 3 cards from a Twitter purchase.  I cannot bring myself to call it X.

There are a couple of weekly vintage sale threads that I follow.  This is the first time I bought from the smaller thread.  Happy to say it turned out well.  This 1959 Topps team card has great color.  I wish Topps would bring back team cards.

This 1959 Boyer is miscut, but not as bad as my scanner made it appear.  There is a left border that my scanner did not show.  Great looking card.

The same seller had a few modern Cardinals he was trying to move.  This 2024 Update Silver Foil Victor Scott fit my budget and made the cost for all three cards an even $15.

Two Cardinals Games in One Weekend

My son started his senior year of high school last month.  He is involved in plenty of activities including marching band, soccer, and baseball.  Most Saturdays until the end of October he will have a band competition, and/or a soccer game.  Makes for a busy day, but I try my best not to miss anything.  Sometimes that results in driving a lot of miles.  This past weekend was a prime example.

We had tickets for Sunday's Cardinals game for months now.  Not a problem, as my son had a soccer game Saturday morning.  Friday morning we were offered two free tickets for that night's game.  My son had practice, but my wife wanted to go.  After we got off work that afternoon, we drove the 2.5 hours to the game and drove back that night.  Saturday we drove about an hour to my son's game.  Sunday we repeated the trip to St. Louis.  12 hours on the road in about a two day span.  Good thing I love to drive.

I was thrilled to go to Friday night's game.  The Cardinals were celebrating the 40th reunion of the 1985 NL Championship.  Like many other Cardinals fans, I believe they would have won the World Series if not for the famous Don Denkinger blown call in Game 6.  Over 20 members of that team were recognized on the field before the game.  The Cardinals also gave away 2 mystery bobbleheads to go along with the 1985 theme.

Triple bobbleheads are really cool.  I like how pitchers are on one, while hitters are on the other.  The Cardinals were also selling a special scorecard just for that night's game.  Well worth the $3.  The game itself was a stinker, as the Giants won 8-2.  It was my first time seeing Michael McGreevy pitch in person.  I was hoping for better results, but am still a believer.

Sunday my son joined my wife and I for the annual American Cancer Society game.  Gates opened for the pregame activities at 9:00.  Just like previous years, our main focus was the autographs.

Despite his poor start on Friday, McGreevy was our first stop.  Glad to add a sweet spot baseball to the collection.

Their is not much to Saggese's auto, but this is my first time getting him on cards.

John Costello was at the same table as Saggese.  I have 22 different cards of him.  18 of them are now signed.

Our next table had 3 different players.  Leahy autographed a card for me a few years ago in Peoria.  Nice to add a big league card.

I took this picture of Nathan Church at a Peoria Chiefs game in 2023.  He asked if I knew if he hit the ball.  I did, it was an RBI double.

I bought two of these scorecards Friday night.  One I plan to get members from the 1985 to sign, like Andy Van Slyke.

We were one of the last people to get Graceffo.  Not sure whose autograph is worse, his or Saggese's.

The rest of our autographs.  The Busch Stadium cards are Scott Spiezo and Benji Molina.  The post card is signed by Molina, Spiezo, and Leahy.  23 autographs in an hour and fifteen minutes is not bad.  Sunday's game was much better, as the Cardinals won 4-3.  We arrived home about 7:00 Sunday evening.  Exhausting weekend, but fun.  Forgot to mention my son's soccer team won 6-1 on Saturday.
