American Cancer Society Day At Busch #2

Back in the middle of August, my wife, son, and I attended an American Cancer Society Day At Busch .  That one was sponsored by the Illinois society.  The Missouri society had its day yesterday.  Same setup as before with player autographs, free hot dog and soda, and early admission to guarantee the promotion item being given away.  I will get to that in a bit but first are the autographs.

 

Lars Nootbaar was the big name on our list.  We have missed him at several minor league games in the last couple of years.  He had the biggest line by far.  My wife and son spent over half their time waiting in his line.  I decided to leave my card with my nephew and jump in another line.

Kyle McClellan was at the same table as Nootbaar.  I have gotten his autograph quite a few times over the years, so I am running out of different cards for him to sign.  My son said he loved this 2004 Peoria Chiefs card.  

Zack Thompson is another rookie I have never gotten an auto from.  He signed the 2020 Pro Debut for me. After my wife and son finished with Nootbaar, they were able to get in Thompson's line.

Bernard Gilkey was at the same table as Thompson.  His line was the last one my wife and son were able to go through in the hour and 15 minute time limit.

I left the Nootbaar line to make sure I could get Gilkey to sign this 10x13 photo.  It should not be very hard to get Ray Lankford and Brian Jordan, but Mark Whiten may be a challenge.  

It is great to add autographs of players who won a World Series like Motte did in 2011.  He still has his signature beard.  It just has a lot more gray to it now.  Packy Naughton was at this table also, but I did not have anything for him to sign.

Bo Hart told me that Albert Pujols is the player in the background of his 2004 Upper Deck card.  He joked that made this card his most valuable.

I had Pallante sign this same card at the first cancer day in August.  Hope he will be in 2022 Topps Update, so he has different cards to sign in the future.  

That finished up our autograph day.  13 autographs is not as many as the 23 we received the first time, but that is still pretty good considering the crowd was a lot bigger.  I am not sure how many people attended the Illinois game, but there were 8,000 tickets sold for the Missouri day.  I am guessing the free promotional item has a lot to do with that.  People 16 and older received an Albert Pujols bobblehead.  15 and under received a Build A Bear teddy bear.  

I am sure the teddy bear is nice, but the bobblehead was the big draw.  We ended up with 3 of them.  My 14 year old son was given the choice of what he wanted.   If you search EBAY for this Pujols bobblehead, you can tell why there was such a big crowd.  I do not consider 25,000 to be a limited supply, but some people do.  After the game, quite a few people with trash bags outside the stadium offered $20 for them.  I was glad to see most people knew the value of these and did not take them up on the offer.
