Better than a Blaster Twitter Lot

2 strange things happened last night.  First, the Cardinals managed to win a game.  They are still in last place though.  Who would have thought at the end of April the Pirates would be in first and the Cardinals in last.  Second, I managed to find some spare time to scan some cards from a Twitter lot that has been sitting on my desk for 2 weeks.  The rain showers ended my mowing night, so I had some quality time in the card room.  I paid about the same price for the lot as a Bowman blaster.  Pretty sure I came out better than I would have with the packs.

I am a sucker for Bowman Sapphire cards.  The seller had a few more available, but I did not feel like paying $3 a piece for some rookie pitchers who are not in the system anymore.

Finest Flashbacks are also a favorite of mine.  The 1995 design from the 2022 set takes me back to collecting in college.

A few Topps parallels from 2022 sets.  The rainbow foil cards scan about the same as chrome refractors.

Speaking of refractors, here are a few from 2022 Chrome.  Is the pink Arenado a color match since he is blowing a bubble?

More refractors including an aqua lave from Bowman Chrome numbered to 199.

Wrapping things up with the last 4 cards from various sets.  The Goldy black chrome is my favorite.

TCDB 2 for Tuesday #40

I really need to pick up the pace with my posts.  This is only #6 for April.  I have a few card stacks sitting on my desk that need to be scanned and filed away.  I am lacking the spare time and desire to do so.  My card time right now is either after 9 in the evening or before 6 in the morning.  I was able to put a couple of small pwe trades away on Sunday evening.  First is a 3 pack of cards from member nkandy11.

I had hopes of attending my first Peoria  Chiefs game on Sunday afternoon, but a few things came up.  This Hjerpe card will have to wait to be autographed.  I passed the 100 mark of Arenado cards sometime earlier this year without even knowing it.  This 20223 insert is number 109.  My son added this nice green 2022 GQ to his Altuve collection.

Second trade consisted of 4 Cardinals from member ChicoSportsCards.

As much as I love getting Molina cards, I was more excited to cross off the 3 2011 Pro Debut cards from my wantlist.  That set is now complete 12 years later.

TCDB 2 for Tuesday #39

Here it is the 3rd Tuesday of April, but my first 2 for Tuesday post.  Another result of my lack of trading.   Sooner or later things will pick up.  Until then, you get to see a couple of small trades.  First up is a 3 pack of Cardinals minor leaguers from member jackal726.

Base Prizm cards are boring, but the parallels like this red velocity really pop.  All of these cards are from 2021 Prizm Draft Picks.  Mills is scheduled to be tonight's starter for Peoria.  I am not sure where Holgate is right now, but most likely it is in extended spring training.  He is not on any of the full season rosters.

Second trade features 2 Cardinals from member royals.  Want to guess what I traded him?

Sometimes small trades are not worth the price of postage, but I do make exceptions for hard to find set cards and short prints.  Tavarez is from the 2004 MLB Showdown Trade Deadline set.  Wong is a 2014 Heritage high number.  He is off to a pretty rough start for the Mariners, going 5 for 47 so far.  I have always rooted for him after he left St. Louis, even the last few years when he was a Brewer (except when they played the Cardinals).

Minors Trade

April has been a slow trading month for me.  My 2 or 3 trades per week has turned into maybe 1.  Nice weather and high school baseball season has put a major hit in my spare time.  Other than a few small trades, things have dried up with the exception of a trade with TCDB member Chemo. We worked out a trade with 21 cards heading in each direction.  Not a huge deal, but a large one for me.

Over half of the cards were the minor league variety including these 6 from 1990 ProCards.  Not many names non-Cardinals fans will recognize other than maybe Mike Perez.

Mabry and Osborne had better careers than the first group.  These 2 are from the 1991-92 ProCards Tomorrow's Heroes set.

The top 2 cards are from 1992-93 Fleer Excel, while the bottom one is a 1992 Skybox AAA cards.  Another group of guys that never reached the Majors.

This guy is more well known, but these are not minor league cards.  Both are box bottom cards from 1986.

Another non minor league card is this one from 1992 Topps Gold.  I thought I had the complete team set, but they were from the Topps Gold Winner set.  This set will not be very tough to complete except for maybe the Ozzie Smith card.

The 6 remaining cards I received will be used for an autograph signing at the end of May.  You will have to wait a few weeks to see them.

Archives Auto

It has been a pretty hectic week on the home front.  High school baseball season is in full swing.  Since Friday, my son has had a game every day except for Sunday.  Once home from his games, there is yard work that needs to be done until it gets dark.  That leaves little to no time for cards.  I did have a not so recent EBAY win arrive last week.  I paid within 10 minutes of the end of the auction, and the seller provided a tracking number the next day.  10 days later it finally is dropped off at the post office.  I hate when sellers do that.  I did leave positive feedback, but only 1 star for shipping.  At least it arrived safely.

My newest Cardinals auto is from the 2022 Archives Signature set.  Tenace did not have a very long Cardinals career, but he was a member of the 1982 World Series team.

#15 Leads to #700

Monday night's Cardinals game did not go as planned (neither has the last 2 games either).  We lost to a really good Braves team.  I did get to see Austin Riley hit the longest home run by a visiting player at Busch Stadium III.  Estimated distance was 473 feet.  It was one of those hits that sounded like it was going a long way.  At least the weather was nice, and I got plenty to eat.

I am sure fellow Cardinals' collector and TCDB member timriess shared in my misery.  We did have some comfort though thanks to our 15th trade, which was also my 700th on the site.

I recently added all the copyright and period variations to my Lankford wantlist.  I had to use a magnifying glass to see which variation I had.  I am too lazy to scan the backs of these, but they are all new.

The Cardinals Double and Single A teams have their first games of the season tonight.  Both of these players will be in low A Palm Beach to start the season.  Barring injury, both should be promoted to Peoria before the end of the year.

Walker hit his first of hopefully many home runs yesterday.  He has hit a lot of balls over 100 mph so far, but not much to show for it.  Sooner or later those balls will be hits.  Carlson started the year as the 4th outfielder, but will Tyler O'Neill being in the doghouse for not running hard on Tuesday night, he will slide into the starting centerfield job.

Ozzie Smith gets more cards per year than some of the Cardinals' regular players.  I am not complaining as Ozzie is an legend, just find it strange an everyday position player like Tommy Edman or Brendan Donovan has fewer cards.

Last but not least is an assortment of shiny inserts.  As much as I love the die-cut Yadi, the Musial/Goldschmidt is my favorite.

Monday Quickie

Today will be a short post as the wife and I will be leaving shortly for tonight's Cardinals vs Braves game.  We have seats above the batter's eye in centerfield that include an all you can eat buffet.  Lunch today will be very light so I can get my money's worth.  I hope the Cardinals continue to hit as they did over the weekend.  The weather should be perfect will no chance of rain and the temperature in the low 70s.

I won this 2022 Draft Sapphire lot off EBAY for less than $2 delivered.  I am guessing at some point all of these guys will come through Peoria this year.  May have to try to get them autographed.
