Card Show Recap

My son and I made our annual trip to a December card show on Saturday. I always have luck finding good deals before Christmas; this year was no exception. We decided to make the 2.5-hour drive to St. Louis early Saturday and arrived at the show shortly after the doors opened.

It was nice to have plenty of time to browse all the tables.  We spent about three hours going through a few bargain boxes but mostly looking at vintage cards.  My son was a big help in checking my want list while I was looking for the cards.  I spent a little less than $60 with four different dealers.

This was the lone Altuve card my son came home with.  We found a few others he needed, but were unwilling to pay the prices.  We have seen an increase in his prices at the last few shows.  After 14 years in the league, I think collectors are starting to realize he has a good chance of making the Hall of Fame.

We did not find any dime boxes, but we did discover some quarter boxes.  This dealer only had one 1600 count box.  I was thrilled to find the last 1972 Topps high number for my team set.  It is not gem mint, but it is very close.   The Cepeda is an upgrade to my copy, while the bottom two cards are trade bait.

The next dealer had vintage sets in binders sorted by year.  They ranged from 1951 Bowman to 1974 Topps.  Some cards were in rough shape, but I did find these three to cross off my Cardinals want list.  The 1966 Uecker was a nice find for less than $5.  It has a couple of soft corners, but fits great in collection.  The other two are in excellent condition.

I spent almost an hour at this dealer's tables.  I have bought from him before.  He deals in nothing after 1975, with most of the cards in mint condition.  All eight of these have no creases and four sharp corners.  Two are a little off-center, but other than that, they are perfect.  The 1965 Bob Skinner is a short print.  The Gagliano leaves me one card shy of completing the 1968 Topps team set.
