Cards from Kerry B

My favorite Cardinals blogger, Kerry B, reached out to me a few weeks ago on TCDB about a Cardinals for Cardinals trade.  I love these trades as I reduce my duplicates while helping another collector do the same.  This one was a nice 7 for 7 trade.

I received 2 Topps Gold cards, while I sent 3 the other way.

I also received 2 sweet-looking numbered cards from 2013 Topps Opening Day.

Kerry filled a couple of base set needs with a 2024 Bowman Arenado and a 2023 Flagship Liberatore.

The last card of the package was a 2023 Silver Pack Ivan Herrera.  I am glad to see he is hitting well since the injury to Willson Contreras, just wish he was able to throw out a base runner or two.

TCDB 2 for Tuesday #81

I only have 3 cards to show off today from 2 small trades.  All come from the 2024 Topps Big League set.  First 2 come from member SMSiegell.

I was shocked to see I have 34 different cards of Fredbird.  He made quite a few appearances in Topps Opening Day sets and some Cardinals stadium give away sets.  I only have 3 Gray cards including this uncommon foil card.  That number should have a big increase by the end of this year.

The third card came from member ntwhlr.

The legendary gold foil cards are the hardest to pull. I have read that less than 1,000 of these were produced, although they are not numbered.  Glad to mark this tough one off the wantlist.

Father's Day in Peoria

It was a busy weekend at my house. My wife had a partial knee replacement on Thursday. She was discharged on Friday but spent most of the weekend in pain or sleeping. I will give her major props, though, for giving me and my son her blessing to make our annual Father's Day trip to a baseball game.  Since my daughter went out of town for a wedding, my in-laws spent the day helping her out.

With the Cardinals being out of town playing the Cubs, we made a trip to Peoria to see their Singe A teams face off.  I was not expecting much of a crowd with temps in the low 90s.  Announced attendance was a little over 2,000, but actual attendance was closer to 500.  We managed to sit in the shade for most of the game.  The Chiefs beat the Cubs in 11 innings on a walk-off balk.  First time I ever saw that happen.

Any trip to Peoria also involves autographs.  Sunday was another team autograph day after the game.  We attended one in April where most of the team signed.  Yesterday is was mostly pitchers with a few position players.

Mautz and Hansen signed for us in April.

Baez also signed for us in  April.

Everyone else we wanted autographs from did not come out.  I had some pictures I took from the April game I wanted to be signed along with 1 other item, so we made our way to the player entrance in hopes of tracking down the players.  We had never done this before, so I did not know what to expect.  Within 15 minutes, all 3 players came out and signed for us.

Won Bin Cho did not play in the game but held onto a stuffed rally monkey during most of it. He did not look too thrilled to sign, but he did anyway.

Zach Levenson was up to bat when the balk was called.  He was happy to sign and a little surprised we recognized him.

Leonardo Bernal almost won the game in the bottom of the 10th, but his line drive was caught in right field.  He loved this picture of him hitting his second home run of the season.

I bought this locker room name plate at Busch Stadium a few weeks ago knowing we would be seeing Peoria play again this year.  Pretty nice collectible for less than the price of a blaster.

I took about 50 pictures during the game.  With the small crowd, it was easy to move around to get some good angles.

Starting pitcher Quinn Mathews pitched a great game going 6 2/3 innings with 3 earned runs, 11 strike outs, and no walks.

Mathews and Bernal after the end of an inning.

Baez connecting on a pop up.

Baez and Bernal scoring after a home run from Chris Rotondo.

Levenson after he touched first base following the balk.  Peoria is one of the last minor league teams without the netting extending down the foul lines.  That will change after this season.  Then there will be no more photos without little black lines.

Ashamed of Myself

Since day one of this blog, I have made it very clear that I am a huge Ray Lankford fan. He has always been and always will be my favorite player. Search my blog, and you will find quite a few posts showcasing his cards and other items.  I have enough things in my collection to do a weekly Lankford post, but have not gotten around to doing so.  Maybe that will become a thing later this year.

Another major fail is not remembering Lankford's birthday is today.  I did not realize it until searching Twitter ( still cannot call it X) earlier this morning.  A good fan like myself should have shown off something nice, but instead,  I have a trade recap from TCDB member sportzking.

This trade was heavy on colored parallels from 2020 Topps. Yellow came from Walgreen's packs.

Purple cards came from Meijer packs.

The Cardinals cannot get Arenado and Goldschmidt to hit well at the same time.  Goldschmidt broke out of his slump a few weeks ago, but Arenado has been hitting under .200 since then.

Carp has not done as bad as I thought he would, but I would still rather see someone like Jordan Walker taking that roster spot.

Jose Jimenez threw one of the nine no-hitters in Cardinals history in 1999. I am happy to add this Fleery Mystique short print to my collection.

Happy Birthday Ray Lankford!  Promise I will not forget next year.

TCDB 2 for Tuesday #80

After taking last week off due to a lack of trading, I returned today with a couple of small trades.  My trading habits have suffered the typical summer slowdown.  I have not completely stopped, just have not had the time or energy to initiate very many deals.  I am still looking to do a handful of trades each week.  Today's first pwe package came from member KC's Kards.

2 more 2024 Bowman to cross off my want list, along with a 2023 Prizm.  Davis and Walker are both former first-round draft picks off to slow starts.  Graceffo has been night and day in his starts in Triple A.  Really good or really bad.

Second trade came from member JustinBobo77.

Sonny Gray has been very fun to watch.  Even when he has a bad start, he still works quickly and strikes out some batters.  I believe he is starting the game Thursday night that my entire family will be attending.  This 2024 Heritage is a short print.

This 2022 Diamond Kings Lou Brock short print completed my team set, and the Molina 2022 Mosaic also completed a team set.
