New Month, Same Old Ron

As the calendar turned to March on Friday, I was reminded of the saying 'In like a lion, out like a lamb".  Here in Illinois we can get any type of weather during March.  It can be 50 degrees one day, but 10 degrees the next with multiple inches of snow on the ground.  I have seen 12 inches in one day back in the 1990s.  I also remember a tornado outbreak a few years ago.  If only we could fast forward to the end of the month with warmer days and the beginning of baseball season.  The one constant with March weather is there is no constant.

One constant I did experience over the weekend is another trade package from Trading Bases member Ron B.  I have already lost count, but this must have been the 4th or 5th package from him this year.  Ron lives out east where he just received 14 inches of snow in 24 hours.  I guess some states do have worse weather than Illinois.  On to the cards.

This is the second 2003 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection card in my collection.  I believe this was one of the first premium issues.  Great looking cards that you do not find very often.  All base cards are numbered to 850.

Shiny? Die Cut? HOF?  How great is this 2016 Stadium Club Ozzie insert.  So many great things to love about it.

A couple more shiny inserts with a 2018 Chrome pink refractor and 1987 card from 2017 Topps Chrome.

I may be one of the few collectors who still likes game used cards.  I know they are over done and most likely not used during a game, but I when I get a new one it takes me back to finding my first one in a pack.  It was an Alex Rodriguez jersey card from 2000 Fleer Showcase.  This Wacha is from 2017 Topps.

As nice as the Ozzie insert was, that is how bad these 2018 Donruss stat line cards are.  About the only positive I can find is they are numbered.

With my 2019 team set done, I am moving to the parallels.  These 3 rainbow foil cards are a good jump start for that set.

More 2019 inserts with my first 150th Anniversary parallels and my second Grapefruit Greats Cardinal.  The 150th cards are ok, but I do not see the point in another parallel to chase.  I guess that is why I don't work for Topps.

Another great looking Ozzie insert in this bunch of 1984 cards.  Unlike the others, the Ozzie is from a silver pack.  I wish Topps would stop using the porn mustache mug shot of Mikolas.  At least this one is not as big as the 2018 Topps Gallery card.

  1. Your reference to the old saw about in like a lion and out like a lamb reminded me to watch the great John Belushi Weekend Update but about that. https://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/weekend-update-john-belushi-on-march/n33439

I appreciate it even more now that I regularly spend time on the Malay Peninsula, where the weather definitely resembles a worm-eating fernbird!
